Seva: Service as spiritual practice

The premise of this course is the recognition that yogic practice and service to the world are not two separate goals but one movement approached from two directions. This challenges a deep assumption in both spiritual and activist cultures: that inner work and outer work compete for our time and energy.

We will be exploring the idea that genuine Seva - service offered without need for recognition or result - does something specific to the person who practises it. It softens and expands the heart. The boundary between self and other becomes more permeable, compassion deepens, and the circle of care widens. Seva (service) meditation, and yogic postures are not three separate practices but one mutually reinforcing system - each one deepening and proving the others in the world.
